Digital Livelihoods and Women’s Empowerment Initiative
The Digital Livelihoods and Women’s Empowerment Initiative is a pioneering project aimed at harnessing technology to unlock economic opportunities for women across Bangladesh. This initiative combines qualitative and quantitative research, capacity-building workshops, and pilot interventions to assess and enhance the role of digital platforms in women’s employment, entrepreneurship, and financial inclusion.
The project begins with baseline surveys and focus group discussions in both urban and rural areas, exploring women’s access to digital devices, internet connectivity, and skill-building resources. Through strategic partnerships with local NGOs, tech hubs, and microfinance institutions, the initiative experiments with tailored training programs on e-commerce, digital marketing, mobile finance, and remote work opportunities designed specifically for women.
Special attention is devoted to identifying key barriers—such as digital literacy gaps, cultural norms, and safety concerns—and developing practical solutions to foster a supportive ecosystem. The project also includes impact monitoring through regular data collection and interactive feedback sessions with participants.
Findings and learnings from the Digital Livelihoods and Women’s Empowerment Initiative will inform government policy, support private sector innovation, and inspire community initiatives, all with the goal of advancing gender equity and accelerating Bangladesh’s journey toward inclusive digital growth.
